Loon Count and Loon Chick Update 2023

The annual Audubon Loon count was also held Saturday, July 15. We had a successful loon count early in the morning. Three new volunteers joined alongside eight seasoned counters. There were quite a few loon sightings. We recorded three loon pairs, four babies and one lone adult loon.  Shortly after the loon count, Elaine Bradbury spotted a parent loon with two chicks near Watchic Rd 19 (off Route 113). Dam Tour Saturday July 22

Learn about the history of the dam, how it was rebuilt in 2007, and ongoing operations. If coming by boat, please tie up on the shore (not at the dam). Spring is on the way and the dam has been closed

Dam Closed April 5 2023. To address seasonal changes, the dam gate is closed to raise the water level shortly after ice-out, and then opened to lower the water level in early November. 2023 ice out is almost complete. The dam was closed on April 5. The water level will gradually increase by about 18 inches over a two week period following the closing of the gate. Between now and about November, volunteers check the water level at different locations
